Review: The Rise of Nine (Lorien Legacies #3) by Pittacus Lore

Published: August 21, 2012
Published: HarperCollins
In Pittacus Lore’s The Rise of Nine, third in the New York Timesbestselling I Am Number Four series, the stakes are higher than ever as John, Six, and Seven try desperately to find the rest of the Garde before it’s too late.

The Mogadorians who destroyed the planet Lorien continue to hunt down the Garde, the small group of Loric survivors who have taken refuge on Earth. The Garde must come together. They are Lorien and Earth’s only hope.

During the dangerous mission at the Mogadorian base in West Virginia, John found and rescued Nine. But even with their combined powers, special abilities known as Legacies, the pair barely escaped with their lives—and they lost Sam in the process.

In order to save our world and their own, John and Nine must join forces with Six and Seven who have been battling the Mogadorians in Spain, and who are now trying to locate Number Eight in India.

Power in numbers will save us all.
My Thoughts
Full of Spoilers – Proceed with caution.
The Rise of Nine is explosive, adrenaline pumping and full of high power energy. I expected nothing less with this installment.

In this installment, Number Six, Seven and Ten go in search of Eight and they find him in India. Across the world, Four and Nine are traveling together and Five is still missing. Setrakus Ra is on earth and invading Four and Eight’s mind through dreams and visions. The Government is working with the Mogadorians for the benefit of rare minerals, weapons and finding other life sustaining planets.

So much happened during this installment that it was like a constant action-packed film with no downtime, which I loved!

In this book, it was clear that Four is distracted by Sarah and Sam. He wants to find them and keep them safe, and luckily they do find Sarah, and she redeems herself for what she did in the previous book. However Four needs to refocus on his mission of saving Lorien and keeping the Garde together.

We got to know Nine a little bit better and I really liked his character. Nine is hard-edge and reckless probably because he was tortured by the Mogs for over a year, so he’s consumed with revenge. Nine needs to harnesss his revenge, learn to work with his Garde, and refocus his energy in a more controlled manner.

As with the first two books, Six remains my favorite. She’s badass, headstrong, determined and fierce. I see her as a leader alongside Four in this mission.

The last chapters end in an epic battle with Setrakus Ra and at the end, the Garde knows they need to train and strategize together in order to win this war. The Lorien Garde are a force to be reckoned with! Looking forward to the next installment.

  1. This is the book I left off with in the series. So far I loved it, but I haven't touched it in over a year. This review may be what I need to get back on the horse so to speak. :D Matt @ JC's Book Haven.

  2. They do really need to learn to work together! That battle between the Garde and Ra at the end went terribly mostly because they didn't work together. I've read the next book, Fall of Five, and it was CRAZY. I hope you enjoy it! Great review!
